The repair works at the Chisinau wastewater treatment station have come to a standstill. The present water and sewer rates does not allow the water supplier Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) to make the necessary investments, the company’s manager Constantin Becciev told journalists on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports. As the air temperature is growing, the unpleasant odor will come back from the wastewater treatment station to Ciocana district. ACC traditionally enhances the evacuations of the refuse from the station’s platforms during the warm period of the year. It is the only solution for the time being, but it is insufficient, says the ACC manager. Constantin Becciev has underlined that in the near future the company will propose the local authorities a new draft decision on adjusting tariffs. This will enable the company to invest in dehydrating the mud, in transporting it – works aimed at gradually eliminating the unpleasant smell. The ACC manager suggests that some 70-80 million euros will be necessary to perform the repair works and the company does not have this money. The money can be obtained in two ways. One of them is to establish an investment tariff, to include money for the wastewater treatment station. The second way is to conclude a private-public partnership with global companies in the area. This way will be used only if the City Council agreea. General Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca informed a City Hall meeting on Monday about the way in which the Romanian town of Pitesti, with a population of 200,000, in a couple of years managed to overcome the issue of drying and disposing of the mud from the wastewater treatment station. The general mayor says that after a talk with his counterpart from Pitesti, they reached the conclusion that the situation in Chisinau can be solved in reasonable amounts of time.
