'Adevarul Nistrean' marks 15 years

The only newspaper in Romanian with Cyrillic letters from Moldova's Transnistrian area – the so called social-political, cultural and mass information newspaper “Adevarul Nistrean” – marks 15 years on July 11, Info-Prim Neo's correspondent from Tiraspol reports. The publication was set up officially on July 11, 1994, but the first edition reached the readers two months later, on September 2, and was dedicated to the anniversary of “Transnistria's Independence” (on September 2, 1990, the break-away forces from Tiraspol, supported by the Russian Army and paramilitary units, proclaimed the Soviet, Socialist Moldovan Transnistrian Republic, and on August 25, 1991, the Supreme Soviet (Parliament) of this republic adopted the independence declaration, unrecognized by other states– e.n.) “Adevarul Nistrean” strengthened its positions later in the 90s, by sending correspondents to all the districts of the self-styled republic. “Today, Adevarul Nistrean offers information from all areas and domains. Special attention is paid to develop and preserve the Moldovan language with Cyrillic letters,” stated Vladimir Kovali, the interim editor-in-chief of the newspaper. He says its readers are mainly students, teachers and doctors and their number grows. Its circulation is 1,000-1,500 copies. Vladimir Kovali says they plan to put the newspaper on the Internet.
