Those who have access to the State Register of Animals will be obliged to ensure the confidentiality of the used data. Parliament on June 10 voted a set of amendments and supplements to the law on the identification and registration of animals in the first reading, IPN reports.
Thus, the data from the Register will be communicated to third persons only with the consent of animal owners. The bill introduces a new notion in the law, of national operator of the agriculture information system.
It is suggested modifying the period for identifying and registering animals, which is now the same for all the species of animals – 20 days. In accordance with the amendments, lambs will be identified and registered after 60 days.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Luca said the amendments and supplements will guarantee the confidentiality and integrity of the data from the Register. Also, the procedures for identifying and registering animals will yield clear and correct information about the movement and slaughtering of animals, etc.
Unaffiliated MP Valeriu Giletski inquired about the costs for identifying and registering animals and other related aspects. Vasile Luca said the procedures for identifying and registering animals have been applied since 2006. The costs are associated with the remuneration of veterinarians and with the fact that there are no vets in many settlements.
