Additional actions required by EU for Moldova to qualify for funding

Prime Minister Maia Sandu says that, following discussions with European institutions, the need emerged for additional actions imposed by the European Union on Moldova so that our country could benefit from financial resources. At a meeting of the Governmental Commission for European Integration, the prime minister asked the relevant authorities to get actively involved so that the additional actions could be completed by the end of September, IPN reports.

During the meeting, to Commission took stock of the progress made to fulfil the conditions for obtaining the macro-financial assistance from the European Union, and to implement the Association Agreement with the European Union. Prime Minister Maia Sandu stressed that high-level political dialogue between Moldova and the EU has been resumed, as our country received budget support in the amount of 14.54 million euros. The money is allocated to finance education and training programs and the implementation of the Action Plan for visa regime liberalization.

According to the Prime Minister, by the end of the year further direct budget support financing for other programs will follow.

At the same time, Maia Sandu emphasized that following the discussions with the European institutions, the need for additional actions imposed by the EU for benefiting from financial resources emerged. "It is important to make every effort to benefit from the EU's openness to disburse the two tranches of macro-financial assistance by the end of the year. We must make significant progress at the level of all institutions and of each directorate, " Maia Sandu said, quoted in a press release issued by the Government.

Natalia Gavrilița, Minister of Finance, notes that the macro-financial assistance includes 28 conditions and that a series of well-organized actions in order to meet the commitments is needed. The political conditions imposed by the EU envisage ensuring democratic standards throughout the country, conducting free, transparent local elections, demonopolizing the media market, observing human rights and the rule of law. This also involves investigating bank fraud, revealing corruption schemes, depoliticizing justice and carrying out the fiscal package regulation.
