Ada Zevin's drawings displayed at National Arts Museum

Art lovers are invited to feast their eyes on the works of painter Ada Zevin, which are displayed in an exhibition at the National Arts Museum throughout July. The exhibition comes to commemorate late Ada Zevin on her 90th birth anniversary. Opened on July 1, the expo features paintings and graphic art from different periods of her creation, Info-Prim Neo reports. Art critic Ludmila Toma said at the opening ceremony that most of the drawings displayed were donated by the artist herself. Exhibited are 54 paintings and more than 350 pieces of graphic art. “Margaritare” (“Pearls”), “Luminile Serii” (“Evening Lights”), “Casa Batraneasca” (“Parental Home”), “Gaudeamus”, “Natura Statica cu Maci” (“Still Life with Poppies”) – are just a few of them. According to Ludmila Toma, the works of Ada Zevin are based on an elevated artistic culture that results from a careful and creative observation of the legacy from the past and the Occidental art. Her works are considered to remain topical, offering us the chance to discover new valences which correspond to the modern spirituality. Ada Zevin is both known as a gifted teacher and art critic, amazing us with different facets of her brilliant personality that manifested itself fully, despite the hostile social and political environment, and the incompatibility with the freedom of creation, said Tudor Zbarnea, the director of the National Arts Museum. Ada Zevin (3 Sept. 1918 – 23 Sept. 2005) is part of the generation of painters influenced greatly by the Romanian painting school. She graduated from the Bucharest-based Academy of Belle Arte. Her works combine post-expressionism, and Romanian and French painting styles, distinguishing themselves through a mixture of classical, modern and traditional features.
