ACUM stills waits for Socialists’ response

Even if the period of time set by the Political Bloc ACUM for constituting a working group to discuss the legislative proposals concerning the de-oligarchization of the state in concert with representatives of the parliamentary group of the Party of Socialists expired on April 25, those from ACUM still wait for a response from the Socialists.

“Action and Solidarity” Party vice president Mihai Popşoi has told IPN that the ball continues to be in the Socialists’ court and the Bloc ACUM is waiting for their answer. The fact that the Socialists didn’t come to the meeting set to take place two days ago to have discussions can be considered a response, but they should have courage to say it openly. “If they do not have a repose for us they should give a response to society so that their decision is clear and they do not create illusions and expectations among the people,” he stated.

Contacted by IPN for details, secretary of the Socialist parliamentary group Vasile Bolea said the Socialists agree to discuss with representatives of the Bloc ACUM the formation of the Government and the constitution of the working bodies of Parliament for a four-year period, with a clear-cut agenda. “Evidently, any question should have a response. We will respond to them when time comes,” noted Vasile Bolea.

Socialist lawmakers didn’t show up for a discussion that MPs of the ACUM parliamentary group hoped to have on April 24. Representatives of the bloc said the PSRM demonstrated they aren’t ready to discuss seriously. ACUM proposed creating a working group, not discussing the formation of a coalition with the  PSRM as they wanted to see if the Socialists are ready to take part in the process of de-oligarchizing the state by voting the suggested package of laws.

One day earlier, the Party of Socialists reiterated its readiness to form working groups to discuss matters related to the election of Parliament leadership and examine legislative proposals from both sides. “But this can only happen if ACUM shows readiness to consider the formation of a stable governing coalition based on the proposals put forward by the PSRM National Council for the purpose of changing the current government system and avoiding snap elections”, stated Ion Ceban, the party’s chief ideologist.
