ACUM decision related to consultations with head of state

The MPs from the two groups of the ACUM Bloc will attend today, November 13, the consultations initiated by the President of the country, Igor Dodon, following the dismissal of the Government.

The chairman of DA Platform, ACUM, group, Alexandru Slusari, has told IPN that the group will show up for the discussions with the head of state, since this is stipulated by the institutional procedure. "After the event that took place yesterday, I don't really see what we could discuss with Igor Dodon. But, as this is provided by the law and the Constitution, we will probably go,” said Alexandru Slusari.

Asked by IPN, the chairman of the PAS group, the ACUM Bloc, Igor Grosu, has confirmed that the group will go to consultations.

The Cabinet of Ministers led by Prime Minister Maia Sandu was voted down on Tuesday, November 12. The motion of censure brought in by the Socialist Party group was voted by 63 MPs from the PSRM and the Democratic Party. The Șor Party group MPs abstained from voting, whereas those from the ACUM bloc voted against.

After the censure motion is passed, the prime minister is obligated to submit the resignation of the Government to the head of state, within a maximum of three days. The Cabinet of Ministers will be in office until the members of the new Government take the oath. After its resignation, the government may perform only public affairs administration tasks. The Cabinet of Ministers cannot make foreign policy decisions and is not entitled to propose new bills.

President Igor Dodon is obligated to initiate consultations with parliamentary groups to form a new Government. Today, November 13, the head of state is waiting for the parliamentary groups to discuss what solutions they have for overcoming the political crisis. The PSRM is expected at 10.00, the ACUM bloc - at 11.00, the PDM - at 12.00 and the Șor Political Party - at 13.00.

After consulting the MPs, the president will nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister and, within 15 days from the appointment, the candidate shall request the Parliament’s confidence vote on the Government’s activity program and present the complete list of the cabinet of ministers.

The deadline for investing the new executive is of three months. If the Government is not voted during this period, the Parliament is dissolved and snap parliamentary elections are announced.
