ACUM Bloc was a positive example of political cooperation, Maia Sandu

The ACUM Bloc constituted by the Action and Solidarity Party and the Political Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” stopped existing after the elections, said PAS president Maia Sandu, who considers that the cooperation within ACUM was a positive example of political cooperation. The politician noted that it wasn’t easy as the parties are different, the people are different. It is hard inside one party, not to mention two distinct parties.

“But I think that judging by the experience or the recent political past of the Republic of Moldova, this was a positive experience and this should be extended. It is yet necessary to have sufficient political forces consisting of honest people in these partnerships as it is easier to cooperate this way,” Maia Sandu stated in a video interview for IPN News Agency.

The politician said good and less good things were done under that format, but one cannot reach something without partnerships. “We must accept that it seldom happens in a democracy for a political party to obtain sufficient support or a parliamentary majority. If we go towards a democratic society, we must learn to coexist with a number of parties, to govern together, to do good things for the people. This happens in many European countries from which we should learn,” Maia Sandu.

As to the recent calls to union made among the unionist parties, the PAS leader said this unification should take place. The unionist parties and also the pro-European parties and all the parties that want a free and democratic country and share the European values should work on this.

As to her involvement in elections, Maia Sandu said she hasn’t yet taken a decision in this regard. She didn’t decide whether to run in the new parliamentary elections in single-member constituency Hâncești and in the presidential elections or not.

The interview “PAS president Maia Sandu’s view about the state of affairs in Moldovan society at the intersection of years” forms part of the series “Crossroads of years through the angle of the ideal of living better at home” that also involve President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Ion Chicu and the leaders of the main parliamentary parties Pavel Filip and Andrei Năstase.
