Sergiu Litvinenco, who took part in the first meeting of the Superior Council of Magistracy as minister of justice, said his priorities reflect the vote of July 11, 2021, so that the judiciary works correctly during the next four years. The minister called on his mates from SCM to promote only honest people in the system, to support the external assessment of judges and to optimize the Council’s activity, IPN reports.
At the beginning of the September 7 meeting, Sergiu Litvinenco voiced hope that he will have close cooperation relations with SCM, either the minister of justice is or is not a member of the Council. He is in favor of the amendment of the Constitution for the minister of justice, the prosecutor general and the president of the Supreme Court of Justice to be excluded from the composition of SCM.
The minister requested the SCM members to promote only upright persons to the post of judge as everything starts from here. “By a procedure that is to be considered, the appointment of Viorica Puica as judge of the Supreme Court of Justice will be reexamined. Parliament of the previous legislature rejected this candidate without any justification,” stated Sergiu Litvinenco.
According to him, another important thing is for the bill to subject judges and prosecutors to external assessment to become a functional law. He called on the SCM members to become involved in the working out and later in the implementation of the given provisions.
Sergiu Litvinenco also said that the activity of the Superior Council of Magistracy, boards, etc. should be optimized. The Council should work based on the citizens’, not on judge’s interest.
