As of June 2, the activity of the Customs Service is regulated by a new law that was adopted by Parliament last yearend. Thus, the director general of the Customs Service will be chosen at a contest for a term of five years, IPN reports.
Under the new law, the vacant or temporarily vacant post of customs functionary will be filled on a contest basis and the performance will be assessed based on individually set objectives.
The law introduces disciplinary punishment for customs functionaries, such as retrograding by a special rank for a period of up to a year, suspension of the right to be promoted to a post for a period of two years, suspension of the right to be paid a higher salary for a period of up to a year.
The list of Customs Service awards was supplemented with the medal “For Devotion In Service”. The new regulations also envision the conferring of special ranks on all the employees of the system and the refunding of the transport costs for customs functionaries who work in other localities than their place of residence.
