Activities on International Museum Day and European Night of Museums

A number of activities will be carried out in Moldova on the occasion of the International Museum Day that is marked on May 18.  The European Night of Museums will be celebrated on May 21, when the public will be able to visit some of the museums after midnight too and to take part in workshops, discuss with personalities from different areas and see exhibitions of photographs and paintings, IPN reports.

Minister of Culture Monica Babuc told a news conference that the museums on these days will exhibit collections from different areas and will stage activities intended for people of different ages. Such events lay emphasis on the museum collections and attract a larger number of people. The activities held on the International Museum Day and European Night of Museums last year attracted over 55,000 visitors.

The International Museum Day in Chisinau will be opened at the National Museum of Arts on May 18. The Museum will house the personal exhibition of artist Otgonbayar Ershuu, who won the Top Prize of the International Painting Biennial Chisinau 2015. The exhibition will continue until June 12. The same day, the National Museum of Literature “Mihail Kogalniceanu” will hold the Open Doors Day and will mount a number of thematic exhibitions.

On the European Night of Museums on May 21, activities will be staged by the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, the National Museum of History of Moldova, the National Museum of Arts and other institutions.

The European Night of Museums will be opened officially at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History at 11:30am. The activities will continue until 2am the next day.

The organizers said the public will be able to see a technical exhibition of epoch photos and photos taken in the Bessarabian cultural area starting with 1854. The exhibition entitled “Adventure in the world of photograph” will include a photo contest and masterclasses.

The international seminar held within the EU-funded program CHOICE will be the main event this year. It will involve cultural heritage experts from Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, and Armenia.
