Activities of DOTS Plus Project in Moldova efficient - WHO experts

The expert of the World Health Organization (WHO), Kai Vink, considers efficient the activities of DOTS Plus Project in Moldova. WHO expert, also the member of the Green Light Member paid a Monitoring and Evaluation visit to DOTS Plus Project in Chisinau last week, inclusively in penitentiaries. She mentioned that a visible progress in implementing this project can be remarked. Moldova complied with all nine requirements of the Green Light Committee (GLC) for initiating and providing the DOTS plus treatment to the patients with multi-resistant tuberculosis form. The WHO expert mentioned that she will recommend to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and to the Green Light Committee, to support Tuberculosis Control Program in Moldova. During a meeting at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Kai Vink noted that the Moldovan specialists could increase up to 600 the number of patients involved in multi-resistant TB treatment program, at start GLC approving the treatment of only 100 patients. DOTS Plus Project in Moldova was approved by GLC in February 2005, and the beginning of the DOTS plus treatment of the patients with multi-resistant tuberculosis forms, took place in December 2005.
