Most of the activities included in the plan of action dedicated to the Year of Spiridon Vangheli have been carried out. There is yet to be set up a children’s park “Guguta” and erected a monument to this character, IPN reports.
The head of the Ministry of Culture’s press service Svetlana Frunza said that four book titles of the writer appeared this year: “Pantalonia – country of impish children”, “Prankish girl”, “Children in Siberia’s handcuffs”, and “I’m Guguta”. They were issued in 1,375 copies each. Weekly, the public TV channel broadcast a series of programs themed “The Universe of Guguta”. The play “Guguta’s Star”, based on the writer’s story, was premiered at the National Puppet Theater “Licurici”.
Among the activities carried out during the Year of Spiridon Vangheli were the national poetry contest “On the fantasy’s wings – in the world of childhood” and a virtual exhibition of Spiridon Vangheli’s books.
Moldova’s Post Office put into circulation a series of postage stamps “Year 2013 – Year of Spiridon Vangheli”, while the National Bank of Moldova launched a commemorative silver coin with the image of Guguta, to the nominal value of 100 lei.
Svetlana Frunza said the Chisinau City Hall, which promised to build a monument and a park dedicated to the works of Spiridon Vangheli, said the project was finalized, but it’s not known when the construction works will begin.
This year is celebrated in Moldova as the Year of Spiridon Vangheli. On June 14, the writer turned 81. His works were translated and printed in the U.S., Germany, Japan, Hungary, Finland and other countries. Spiridon Vangheli holds the Diploma of Honor Hans Christian Andersen, the State Award of Moldova, the Romanian Writers Prize, and the Order of the Republic.
