Activities dedicated to older people began

About 100 members of local organizations of elderly people and officials Saturday took part in the campaign “Age seeks action” that is held on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons. The campaign was staged in Moldova for the first time and enabled the generations and officials to interact.

Contacted by IPN, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said the campaign was organized on the initiative of the HelpAge International network in Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and the United Nations Population Fund. The event brought together young and older people for an experience exchange. The elderly people spoke with the officials about the low pensions and their poor living conditions.

The event included a march of generations and the participants were able to visit an exhibition of handicrafts and to buy exhibits. The brass band of the Ministry of Defense gave a performance. There was also held a draw with surprises.

Valentina Buliga said that activities dedicated to the elderly people will be carried out all over the country during 10 days. Persons who need care at home will receive presents. Festivities will be held in old people’s homes and there will be planted trees.

The International Day of Older Persons is marked annually on October 1.
