Ialoveni Lib Dems launch local elections campaign

The Ialoveni district branch of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) has kicked off its campaign for the October 20 local elections.

Speaking at the launch event, Ialoveni mayor Sergiu Armașu – running as an independent, but with PLDM support – said that in four years he managed to achieve for the city more than others achieved in forty years.

Galina Tonu, PLDM candidate for Bardar mayor and principal of the village kindergarten, said the roots of the oak (a reference to the tree depicted on the party’s logo) were still vigorous in the district and the party members were able to resist despite “persecutions from the previous government.”

Attending the event, PLDM president Tudor Deliu stated the city and district of Ialoveni deserved to have honorable people in their local governments. While mentioning that his party skipped the last three elections, Tudor Deliu says PLDM has demonstrated political maturity and supported other parties to deliver change in Moldova. “But enough. PLDM is not a charity, but a party that has itself brought about change in our country. It is our duty to come forward before the people and assure them we can do great things,” declared Deliu.

Activist Pavel Grigorciuk registered as City Council candidate

Activist Pavel Grigorciuk has been registered as a candidate for the Chisinau City Council representing the European Left Party. This was confirmed to IPN by Igor Moraru, secretary of the Chisinau Electoral Council.

Pavel Grigorciuk is the European Left Party’s only candidate to run for the City Council.

The registration was authorized after the National Integrity Agency gave its formal clearance to Grigorciuk.

This is despite the fact that two days ago a district court put Grigorciuk under preventive arrest for 30 days over a brawl with a prosecutor earlier this month. Not so long before that the activist was investigated for slapping Dem MP Sergiu Sîrbu.

Victor Chironda: Repairing and improving energy efficiency of old buildings is one of top 7 priorities

Victor Chironda is proposing a municipal program to install solar panels on the rooftops of old buildings and public establishments in Chisinau. The mayoral contender  – who is formally running on behalf of the Noua Forta party, but is labeling himself an independent – told a press conference this would not just cut electricity cost, but also increase the comfort of people residing in old buildings.

“More than a third of Chisinau residents live in old buildings. Their rundown condition affects the lives of tens of thousands of people, who cannot afford to repair them or give them a thermal insulation upgrade”, said Victor Chironda.

Joining Chirionda’s team as a City Council candidate, energy policy expert Sergiu  Tofilat told the same press conference the program could be implemented in several steps: “The first is to modernize the heating system by shifting to (the more energy-efficient) horizontal distribution. Second, we need to install heating distribution points in the basements of apartment buildings and to improve their thermal insulation.”
