Activist Oleg Brega considers running for president

The vocal activist and journalist Oleg Brega has announced during one of his shows his intention to run for president, IPN reports.

“As the presidential elections are coming and there’s no one I could vote for – I suppose they’re all the same – I thought maybe I could try to run myself, even if they have created impossible conditions for someone like me to collect enough signatures and meet the formal conditions for registration”, said the activist.

Oleg Brega earlier ran as an independent candidate in the November 2014 legislative election, when he garnered almost one percent of the popular vote, insufficient though to clear the threshold. Then, Brega made a bid for the Chisinau mayor’s office in June 2015, when he polled 1.37% of the vote and ranked the 8th out of 17 contestants.

Earlier, Socialist leader Igor Dodon and Iurie Leanca of the European People’s Party also voiced their intention to run for president, and so did the independent MP

Valeriu Ghiletchi. Renato Usatii said his Our Party could be represented in the presidential race by journalist Dmitri Ciubasenco. Other parties, including the Democrats, the Liberals and the Communists, said they would announce their nominees by the end of August.
