The authorities are again accused of ‘genocide’ against pensioners. According to the public association “Moldova mea” headed by activist Fiodor Ghelici, besides having a paltry pension after working for many years, the elderly people are also deprived of the possibility of carrying out activities from which they could earn at least something.

In a news conference at IPN, Fiodor Ghelici said he was recently witness to a situation at the market where elderly people go to sell something on Sundays. A part of these were mistreated by tax inspectors and police officers who went to see if the sellers worked legally and had cash registers. Everything looked as if someone bombarded the market.

In connection with those related, the activist wondered why an elderly man who goes to the market once a week to sell what he grows in his garden should be treated this way. After he saw what happened, he went to the State Tax Inspectorate, where he met an ex-teacher who came to ask what she should do to be allowed to sell products she grew at home at the market once a week. The inspector told her to register a private enterprise and to buy a cash register. The woman asked if she could obtain a patent, but was told that no new patents are being issued and only the old ones are being extended.

Fiodor Ghelici addressed the presidential administration and the Government, saying 70% of the pensioners in Moldova live in unimaginable conditions. He suggested that the Government should take a decision to allow these to trade based on the pensioner’s card. “If they cannot help them, they at least should not hinder them from surviving,” stated the activist. In his address to the Head of State, Fiodor Ghelici reminded that the pensioners voted him because they believed in his promises that they would live better. If the situation does not improve, the people will lose patience and the authorities will suffer the consequences.
