Actions taken by parliamentary majority represent usurpation of power, call

The National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum made a public call by which it ascertains that the actions taken by the parliamentary majority by adopting the Parliament decision on the withdrawal of the vote of confidence given to Domnica Manole, president and judge of the Constitutional Court, are illegal, IPN reports.

The call says the adoption of this decision goes against the provisions of the Constitution, the Law on the Constitutional Court, Constitutional Court Decision No. 8/2013 and includes all the elements of usurpation of state power. The adoption, at an interval of one hour, of another Parliament decision by which another CC judge is named, by ignoring the procedures for removing a CC judge, points to the parliamentary majority’s intention to usurp the state power.

The Platform asks Parliament and other political players to refrain from attacks on the Constitutional Court and judges as this undermines law and order. It also requests the prosecutor general to take measures to ensure the respect for the law and to stop the illegalities committed by the parliamentary majority, which represent elements of the usurpation of state power.

Founded in 2011, the National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum now has 95 member organizations, seven of which are umbrella organizations for another over 255 organizations.
