Acquitted Nicolae Andronic demands investigating prosecutor who dealt with his case
Nicolae Andronic, the leader of the Republican People’s Party (RPP), was acquitted by the Supreme Court of Justice on December 2. The Court ruled that Andronic was not guilty of appropriation through blackmail, Info-prim Neo reports, quoting the party’s press service.
The legal case against the RPP leader was started in November 2006. Andronic described it as political settling of accounts. In January 2009, the Buiucani court sentenced Andronic to five years’ probation.
On April 30, 2009, the Chisinau Court of Appeals rejudged the case and passed a new sentence, whereby Nicolae Andronic was declared not guilty as there were no proofs showing he committed the crime.
According to the RPP’s press service, the representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office who investigated the case asked that the defendant be sentenced to 12 years in closed-type jail. In the end, the Supreme Court of Justice ruled that all the accusations against
Andronic were groundless.
Nicolae Andronic demands that the present administration of the Prosecutor General’s Office investigate prosecutor Igor Popa, who dealt with his case.
