The leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) Maia Sandu said the accusation of the pro-European opposition of premature campaigning by the distribution of brochures and calendars and by the creation of the website acum.md reveals impertinent legal nihilism on the part of the Democratic Party. The reaction comes after the PDM issued a press release saying it notified the institutions responsible for the organization of elections of violations of provisions of the Law on Political Party, the Election Code and the Broadcasting Code committed by parties and civic organizations. According to the PAS, the PDM’s attempt to equalize electoral agitation and simple informing of the population is aimed at preventing the opposition from communicating with the people, IPN reports.
Maia Sandu said the PDM’s press release suggests that being an electoral contender is the only crime in this state. Moreover, it urges the state institutions to act and take punitive measures against the political opponents of the PDM.
“The concept “electoral agitation” is clearly defined in the electoral legislation (Article 1 of the Election Code) and no action of those mentioned in the press release as taken by members and sympathizers of the two parties can be classed as “electoral agitation”. Neither the national nor the international legislation bans the promotion of the own image outside the election campaign. In a democracy, it is normal to have own websites and to print materials to inform the population. But the PDM wants to be the sole party and to use all the state institutions to block any type of communication,” the politician wrote in a post on Facebook.
As to the trips made abroad by the leaders of the parties that announced the creation of the future bloc ACUM, the PAS leader said all these are perfectly legal and transparent. Next week, the leaders of the PAS and PPPDA will travel to Strasbourg to take part in the last plenary sitting of the European Parliament where they will inform the MEPs about the departures that the dictatorial regime in Moldova continues to commit.
“We see that of the five examples given by the PDM, only one refers to the PSRM and, surprise, no one to the PDM, not speaking about other parties, including those led by persons who should stay in jail. It happens in the context in which both the PSRM and PDM go through villages with sacks of potatoes, bribing the voters and offering electoral alms, which are banned by law. Plahotniuc, who is the main thief in the Republic of Moldova, is so desperate that he makes a fool of himself,” said Maia Sandu.
In its press release, the PDM said that in the case of parliamentary elections, the process of designating candidates starts 60 days before the elections and ends 30 days before the election day. Until now the Central Election Commission registered no electoral bloc. Nevertheless, electoral agitation in favor of the bloc ACUM has been conducted for several months by representatives of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” and the Party “Action and Solidarity” even if this bloc does not exist from legal viewpoint.
