An exhibition of photographs devoted to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the policy of reform and openness in China was mounted at the National Library in Chisinau on April 25. On this occasion, the Embassy of China in Chisinau donated to the National Library about 140 books in Romania, Russian and English written by famous Chinese authors, such as Mo Yan, the laureate of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature, and Yu Hua, the first Chinese writer who received the James Joyce Award in 2002, IPN reports.
“Today’s exhibition centers on a collection of valuable and significant historical photographs and nice images that show China’s accomplishments in politics, economy, culture, science and diplomacy. We can say it is the historical summary of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the New China and of the 40 years of reform,” the Ambassador of China to Moldova Zhang Yinghong stated in the event.
The ambassador noted that this year the People’s Republic of China celebrates 70 years since when the Chinese people, under the management of the Chinese Communist Party, started to work hard, went hand in hand with the tendencies and gradually followed the path to development appropriate to the national conditions of China. They worked one miracle after another and the economy and society of China underwent impressive changes, achieving remarkable historical accomplishments. Forty years ago, the Chinese Communist Party took a major decision to implement the policy of reform and openness, reunited and guided the people of China to struggle and start a business, resisted different tests and achieved impressive results in development.
The official also said that the People’s Republic of China became the second largest economic power in the world, the biggest goods trader, the largest industrial country, the second largest consumer of goods and the country with the largest foreigner exchange reserve. “In 2013, the President of China Xi Jinping proposed the cooperation initiative “One Belt, One Road” that is designed to strengthen global cooperation with countries along the route, to obtain mutual benefits and common prosperity and to bring tangible benefits to the people of each county. China actively promoted the building of an open world economy and the creation of a community of common destiny. It promotes changes in the global system of government and continuously contributes to global peace and development with China’s wisdom, potential and solutions,” stated Zhang Yinghong.
National Library director Elena Pintilei said it is a nice tradition already for the Embassy of China in Chisinau to donate books to the National Library, which now has a considerable collection of books in Chinese, English, Romanian and Russian. “Today it will be supplemented with 144 high-quality books printed at the most prestigious publishing houses in China and other countries,” she stated.
Elena Pintilei noted that the books in Romanian published in Bucharest are a new element of this collection. They are a rather valuable acquisition for such an institution like the National Library. All these books represent the history, culture, civilization and policy of China, which is a model for Moldova and other countries.
The National Library currently owns 1,250 books printed in China, over 1,000 books about China in a number of languages and 50 books for studying the Chinese language.
