The municipality has been unable to deposit waste at the landfill known as Mina Purcel since a company extracting clay in the area blocked access to the landfill, an action which the Chisinau authorities regard as an illegality, considering that the all the land in the area is municipal property, Info-Prim Neo. Petru Gontea, the head of the municipal division responsible for urban amenities, told the City Hall's ordinary meeting on Monday, that the land had been let to the company for a certain period and after the contract expired a while ago it asked the City Council for its renewal. And since no decision has been adopted on the matter, the company decided the best solution would be to block access to the landfill. Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca deplored the situation as unprecedented, given that the land to which access in being blocked is municipal property. The Mayor noted that a private lessee could only extract clay and certainly not do with the land whatever it pleased. He requested the relevant agencies to take urgent steps to unblock access to the landfill.
