SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) chose to install hydrants made according to European standards, which are used during a longer period of time. It considers the exploitation and maintenance of fire hydrant installations in a good form can contribute to the safety of dwellings, IPN reports.

In a press release, ACC says that it tends to gradually switch over from internal hydrants to external ones. The company’s specialists consider these are more visible and simpler in the exploitation and maintenance process.

As an experiment, external fire hydrants were set up in Budesti commune of Chisinau municipality. According to the public utility, the given hydrants proved their efficiency. The only deficiency is that they facilitate the theft of water.

The functionality of hydrants is checked two times a year, in spring and in autumn, by a joint commission that consists of representatives of “Apa-Canal Chisinau” and of the Emergencies Division. These assess the situation and identify and remove the irregularities.
