ACC renovates eight ground water treatment and pumping stations with European funds

The company “Apă-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) has renovated three pumping stations and five ground water treatment stations with European funds. According to the supplier, this will enable to increase the efficiency of the water supply and sewerage services for the benefit of the inhabitants of the municipality. The company anticipates it will also economize on electricity, IPN reports.

ACC director general Valeriu Meșca, in the event to launch the water pumping station “Buiucani”, said the new equipment was supplied by a national company and consists of 26 pumping installations. “Following the renovation works, we will ensure water supply services at European standards and the delivery of high-quality water in the municipality of Chisinau. Starting with December 2018, while testing the new pumping equipment, the company saved about 8.7% of electric power. The modernization of the wastewater treatment stations resulted in a larger volume of pumped wastewater following the rise in the number of consumers in particular areas,” stated Valeriu Meșca.

Acting mayor general of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu in the same event said he is confident that the savings will be used by the supplier as investments in other facilities it owns.

The project forms part of the Program to Develop Water Supply Services in the municipality of Chisinau that is financed with the proceeds of the loans provided by the EBRD and EIB and of the investment grant offered by the EU through the Neighborhood Investment Facility.

The Head of the EBRD Office in Chisinau Angela Sax said the new equipment will have a direct impact on the quality of life of the residents of Chisinau. “We, those from the EBRD, are very glad to be part of this common effort,” stated Angela Sax.

The EIB Representative in Moldova Antonio Castillo noted this project component complements the investments that were already made within this program, which focused on the delivery of maintenance tools and equipment for detecting leaks, purchase of special vehicles and trucks and the ongoing rehabilitation of over 140 km of water and sewer pipes and also the rehabilitation of the Water Treatment Plan and a new mud treatment line.
