The company “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) has launched a campaign entitled “Don’t be indifferent, report illegal connections!” that is aimed at preventing illegal connections to the municipal water supply and sewerage system. In 2015 alone, there were identified about 800 unauthorized connections to the public water supply and sewerage networks, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the public utility, about 100 cases of illegal connections have been examined during the first months of this year. Each case is thoroughly studied by an expert commission of the company, which determines the volume of water used illegally. Afterward, the case is remitted to the administrative commission of the Rascani district head’s office for deciding the penalty.
The company said that the illegal connections that enable the consumers to use water for an unlimited period of time are detected by the employees of ACC during ordinary inspections. Until then such acts endanger the supply of water to all the end-users.
In most of the cases, the illegal connections do not meet the elementary technical conditions and the technical norms concerning the installation of water mains and pipes. As a result, the pipes can become frozen in winter. The dwellers from several streets can be disconnected from the water supply so as to fix the problems.
To anticipate the illegal connections, ACC calls on the consumers to report such cases on the trust line 022-256-980 or by an email message on auditdrc@acc.md.
