Academy of Sciences president no longer Cabinet member

The president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova stopped being a member of the Cabinet. Gheorghe Duca made the announcement in the February 22 meeting of the Cabinet in connection with the amendments made to the Education Code. Under the amendments, the University of the Academy of Sciences and the Lyceum of the Academy of Sciences will be transferred under the management of the Ministry of Education, Science and Research, IPN reports.

“I have worked in the Government for 17 years. It wasn’t easy for me in the meetings of the Cabinet, either as a minister (of ecology) or as the president of the Academy of Sciences, but I never renounced my principles and ideals, no matter what color the government had. Science became a key priority during my term,” stated Gheorghe Duca.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip thanked him for the done work.
