Academy of Sciences names best scientists of 2008
The Supreme Council of Science and Technological Development of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) has named the winners of the 5th edition of the contest “The scientist of the year – 2008” - ECONOM, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Thus, professor, doctor lecturer in medicine Constantin Spanu, the deputy director of the National Preventive Medicine Center became a winner in the category “The year’s scientist in the area of real sciences”, for the compilation of scientific works “Achievements in the prophylaxis and treatment of infectious diseases.”
Doctor lecturer of arts Mariana Slapac, the deputy chief of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, was named “The scientist of the year in the area of humanistic sciences,” for her monograph “The art of urbanism in Moldova. Outlook: the Fortresses in Moldavia. A small illustrated encyclopedia.”
The winner of these two categories will be awarded prize of 50 thousand lei.
“The young scientist of the year in the area of humanistic sciences” is doctor lecturer in philology Dragos Vicol, an interim university teacher, the chief of the chair of Romanian philology of the Moldovan International Free University.
The winner in the category “The young scientist of the year in the area of real sciences” is doctor in physics and mathematical sciences Denis Nica, the chief of the laboratory “Physics of the multi-stratified structures with molecular magnets” at the faculty of physics of Moldova State University.
The young scientists are to be awarded 30 thousand lei each.
The ceremony of handing the awards of the National Contest of supporting Science “The scientist of the year– 2008” - ECONOM will take place on December 29.
