Academy of Sciences high school ranks second in world project

The high school of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova took the second position in a world project on global warming prevention. The project was initiated by the United Nations with the aim of identifying measures to prevent global warming, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Academy of Science’s high school ranked second with 16,425 points after a well-established US high school - Hobby School, the Academy says in a communiqué. “Forty-eight high schools from all over the world took part in the project. We cooperated efficiently with a number of Moldovan high schools that actively engage in international activities such as Gaudeamus, Pro Succes secondary school, Mircea Eliade high school in Chisinau, Stefan cel Mare high school in Calarasi, Prometeu-Prim high school in Chisinau, V Alecsandri high school in Calarasi and Orizont high school in Chisinau,” the principal of the high school Ludmila Perciuleac said. During three months, the high school students had worked out 10 mini-projects, presented 3 photo-essays and drawn up 10 petitions to local elected officials. They also made films. During public debates, the students reached the conclusion that the world experiences many crises and their cause should be looked for in every one of us: we consume a lot, but produce less. The second phase of the project will be implemented in the first half of 2009. The debates will center on the topic “Developed States Should be Responsible for Stopping Global Warming”. The high school students will also carry out activities in the community, while the winners will participate in a global summit set to take place in July at the UN headquarters in New York.
