A number of university professors and experts in different areas on January 23 launched the academic committee for promoting regional development actions and policies C15. This is a platform by which the experts aim to warn the political class about the departures in the economic and social development of the Republic of Moldova.
In a news conference at IPN, economic expert Veaceslav Ioniţă said the committee was launched namely in the election campaign because in the period the politicians are more sensitive and attentive and the problems faced by society are addressed extensively.
“We aim to debate publicly different problems related to the economic development of the Republic of Moldova. The Republic of Moldova faces many challenges – we would not like to name them problems – with which we must deal. We must cope with them. Regardless of the construction of the future government and regardless of the construction of the future political alliances, the Republic of Moldova should resolve a number of economic issues,” stated Veaceslav Ioniță.
Another representative of the committee, Dorin Vaculovski, said C15 is a platform open to discussions and research where the most pressing problems will be emphasized. One of the goals is to complement the electoral offers of different parties, candidates. “We are trying to revive all the populist promises that you should know will be made in a large number the next few days,” stated the professor, who is a doctor of economy.
Economic expert Vasile Șoimaru commented on the statements made by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who said the country follows the correct path. “How can we say that we are following the correct path when our development level is similar to that of 1982. We do not need politicians who would have much courage and skillfulness to take unordinary decisions. I don’t know if there is another state in Europe that needs such decisions,” stated the expert. Vasile Șoimaru said that since 1990 until 2000, the Gross Domestic Product of Moldova decreased thrice. No other European states and former Soviet states witnessed such a decline.
The C15 committee consists of professors of different higher education establishments and demographic, labor, energy and other kinds of experts.
