The International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the last discussions with the Ministry of Finance suggested that the abrogation of the “billion law” could be a problem in the future cooperation and in signing a new agreement with the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Finance Serghei Pușcuța stated in a news conference at the end of his tenure. According to him, the IMF’s reactions to the laws adopted by Parliament in its last sittings were negative, IPN reports.
The minister reminded that a group of MPs earlier formulated a legislative proposal similar to the bill to abrogate the “billion law”. The Government then disapproved of the bill. “Since then, I don’t think the Government’s position changed, but you know that the law was adopted before the Government issued its appraisal on it,” stated Serghei Pușcuța.
After the Constitutional Court examines the challenges filed over this law, it will become clear if the law will be implemented or not. If the National Bank of Moldova is de-capitalized, the Ministry of Finance will intervene with the necessary securities or with additional financial resources for ensuring the capitalization of the central bank up to the minimum stipulated by law, said the minister.
