About two thirds of the water from Valea Morilor was already evacuated, thus about 1 meter layer covers the bottom of the pound. On Monday, Ursu announced at the sitting of the City Hall that authorities will meet with the engineers to determine the way the mud from the bottom of the lake will be evacuated. The mud was estimated at about 2 mln cubic meters. According to the cited source, the Green Space Management Association prepares at preset the land were the mud will be deposited because authorities want to hasten the start of the extraction process due to climacteric conditions. As well, engineers will present blueprints of the lake’s future design. According to Ursu, the way the lake will be designed was not settled until now, because the condition of the bed of the lake and the incoming rivers was not known. The project on the reconstruction of “Valea Morilor” Lake was approved through a Governmental decision and is included in the first importance public projects related to the development of Chisinau for the next year. The idea of reconstructing “Valea Morilor” and cleaning the lake from mud belongs to municipal authorities and appeared as a result of an incident which occurred last summer, when 3 tons of fish died because of the consistent layer of mud and lack of oxygen. The City Hall of Chisinau together with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources proposed at that time to evacuate the water and the mud from the lake, and to cover the bottom and the banks of the lake with granite flagstones. “Valea Morilor” park and the lake from this zone were built in 1952. The area of the whole zone covers 102 hectares, of which 36 hectare belongs to the lake. The evacuation of the water was considered the most ecologically efficient method. As well, it will strengthen the banks and will contribute to draining springs.
