Approximately 90 kiosks selling tobacco products near education and health institutions in Chisinau were taken away in the course of last week, IPN reports.
In the December 16 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, district heads said some of the kiosks didn’t have cigarettes on sale, but the buyers could purchase some from these on request. A number of companies that own kiosks complied with local authorities’ demands and withdrew the tobacco products from sale.
In this connection, Mayor General of Chisinau municipality Ion Ceban said now that the kiosks are being removed, the city looks nicer and it is also better for citizens’ health. He called on the involved business entities not to speculate on the problems of elderly people who work as sellers. He noted the municipality will help the kiosk vendors who lost their job.
