The over 80,000 hectares of degraded land of the forest stock need to be urgently ameliorated and financial investments are thus needed. Forest strips should be planted and hydro-technical installations should be built to protect the land from degradation. The information was presented by the vice director of the Forestry Agency “Moldsilva” Ion Platon in parliamentary hearings, IPN reports.
According to Ion Platon, the forested areas in Moldova occupy 462,600 ha or 13.7% of the country’s territory. This year forest regeneration works are performed on an area of 4,300 ha. There were planted trees and performed natural regeneration nurturing works. The companies managed by the Agency collected over 190 tonnes of seeds from 62 species of trees and bushes.
The management of the forest stock was another subject for discussion. The process involves 1,492 persons, such as woodmen, forest engineers and hunting foresters. After the questions and answers session, the MPs recommended the functionaries of “Moldsilva” to formulate concrete legislative amendment proposals for ensuring the sustainable management of the forest stock and improving the state of the environment.
