The water supplier “Apă-Canal Chișinău” last year submitted over 1,000 reports over the identified violations to the Administrative Commission of Râșcani district. About 700 of them refer to illegal connections to the public water supply and sewerage system, IPN reports.
After examining over half of the reports, fines totaling over 728,000 lei were imposed. Another 490 reports are being examined and over 300 of them refer to illegal connections to the water supply and sewerage system.
The nonpayment of water and sewerage bills for six consecutive months is another violation identified frequently. There were also examined cases of freezing of water meters.
Under the Contravention Code, the connection to the public water supply and sewerage networks without informing the water supplier is considered illegal and both the users and those who performed the connection works are penalized.
“The theft of water poses threats to the whole water supply process. To further benefit from water supply and sewerage services, the clandestine users should design a project and file a connection application to the water supplier’s Information Center situated at 38 Albișoara St,” “Apă-Canal Chișinău said in a press release.
