About 7 thousand cases of cancer are annually registered in Moldova

About 7,000 Moldovan citizens are annually diagnosed with oncological diseases. At the same time, about 5,000 people are passing away every year because of cancer. The “Anticancer” Week Campaign is taking place in Moldova between June 18 and 23, aimed at health education and healthy life style promotion, prevention and early diagnosis of oncological diseases. According to experts from the Oncology Institute of Moldova (OIM), among the diseases registered in Moldova, cancer is on the 12th place, while in the general death rate structure, it is on the 2nd place, after the cardio-vascular diseases. The death rate index reaches 200 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. The general oncological death rate structure shows that the first place is taken by the breast cancer, with over 11.0%, followed by skin cancer and lung cancer, with 10%, and stomach cancer with 7.05%. The mortality due to cancer in men represents 194.6 per 100 thousand people, and in women – 191.3 per 100 thousand people, while in children it is 8 per 100 thousand infant population, showing an increasing tendency. Within the “Anticancer” Week Campaign, some groups of doctors will visit consulting services in Chisinau and Balti cities, Soroca and Cahul districts, for cancer consulting, prophylaxis and early diagnosis activities. Last year, oncologists examined patients from Ocnita, Edinet, Taraclia and Comrat. About 10 mln cases of cancer are annually registered worldwide, and over 6.2 mln are dying because of cancer.
