The traffic police identified about 50 persons driving under the influence on the night of July 6, within the “White Nights” operation.
Contacted by IPN, Uliana Catan, press officer of the National Patrolling Inspectorate, said the drivers were given breath tests. Those who were suspected of being in an advanced state of inebriation were asked to give blood samples. Criminal cases were started against those who refused to take the test.
The results of the laboratory tests will be ready in a week. The punishment depends on the amount of alcohol in blood. If the amount is high, the drivers will be liable to a fine of 8,000 to 10,000 lei or 200 to 240 hours of community service. In both of the cases, the drivers will be banned from driving vehicles for a period of three to five years.
The “White Nights” operation will continue on July 7.
