About 450 children with mental disabilities invited to festival
Approximately 450 children with mental disabilities took part in the festival “For You” that was held on October 7 as part of the Mental Health Week taking place in Moldova on the initiative of the Balti-based association “Somato”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The association was founded 10 years ago, but organizes such a nationwide event for the first time. Through the exhibition and festival we want to show that the persons with disabilities have the right to life, are talented and kindhearted,” said the association's president Jana Chihai.
The invitees are children from 17 auxiliary schools, five psycho-neurological boarding schools, two psychiatry hospitals, three community hospitals and other social and medical services.
Most of the mentioned institutions participated in the exhibition. Prizes were awarded at the end of the festival. The Grad Prize was given to a psychiatry hospital that exhibited objects made of glass. Vladimir Cucunescu, of the Balti-based psychiatry hospital, said that he had worked for four years on this exhibition as he wanted to display the most valuable objects made by him and children from the institution.
The Mental Health Week is organized with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The World Mental Health Day has been marked on October 10 since 1992.
