Approximately 44,000 public sector employees will benefit from pay raises next year. Parliament on December 19 gave a final reading to a bill to amend the law on the common salary system in the budget-funded sector, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Finance, about 44,000 public sector employees will get pay raises of 8% to 63% in 2020 as a result of these amendments.

The costs were estimated at 372 million lei a year. The necessary funds were earmarked in the 2020 state budget and planned in the medium-term for 2021-2022. The proposed measures will be accompanied by the rise in the reference value set by the 2020 state budget law with a total cost of over 1.2 billion lei.

Law No. 270/2018 on the common salary system in the budget-funded sector stated to be applied on December 1, 2018.
