Approximately 3,300 chemical poisonings are annually logged in the Republic of Moldova. Out of these, over one third of the cases are medication poisonings, which represent nearly 30%. Specialists warn that the acute nonprofessional poisonings of chemical etiology are one of the multiple public health problems. During holidays, such poisonings grow in number, IPN reports.
Data of the National Public Health Agency show that drug poisonings have prevailed starting with 2013. They rise in number when the population abuses alcoholic drinks. Fifty-one such cases of poisoning were recorded during the first two weeks of this year. A large part of these cases had a suicidal goal and this rate remains rather high.
The grownups are advised to keep the medicines out of minors’ and inebriated persons’ reach, not to take drugs without consulting a doctor, not to exceed the recommended dosage and not to take medicines together with alcohol.
Drug and alcohol poisonings are followed by poisonings with fumes from faulty heaters, with CO2 gas emitted during the fermentation of wine, etc.
