About 3,000 members of Party “Renastere” joined PDM

Approximately 3,000 members of the Party “Renastere-Vozrojdenie” (“Renaissance”) joined the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM). The announcement was made by the deputy head of the Party “Renastere-Vozrojdenie” Oleg Babenco in a news conference on November 24. Shortly afterward, the party issued a press statement, saying it continues the struggle and will not withdraw from the electoral race, IPN reports.

Oleg Babenco said that those who left the Party “Renastere-Vozrojdenie” include 11 candidates for MP and members of the party’s local organizations, who represent about 70% of the party’s members. “We represent active bodies of this party, including the Chisinau branch, the Youth Organization, and the local organization from Transnistria,” he stated.

The MP also said that he and his colleagues who followed him decided to support the PDM because it is a powerful team consisting of specialists working in different areas, who can ensure Moldova’s bright future. Their decision was also determined by the intensification of the extremist movements that threaten Moldova’s future. “We realize that the Party “Renastere” does not have chances to enter Parliament. In order to maintain stability in Moldova, we decided to support the Democratic Party, which has a clear message intended for the ethnic minorities and which promotes interethnic tolerance policies,” explained Oleg Babenco.

Grigore Mira, head of the “Renastere” local organization based in Centru district of Chisinau, said that there is peace in Moldova and understanding between the representatives of the ethnic minorities is needed for ensuring quietness on both sides of the Nistru River. “We consider the Democratic Party has that force needed to ensure balance in Moldovan politics and stability in the country,” he stated.

In its press statement, the party says that Oleg Babenco didn’t actively become involved in the election campaign lately. “The lie that most of the members of the Party “Renastere-Vozrojdenie” defected to the PDM will be on his conscience. The party’s administration underlines that despite this unpredicted case involving Babenco, we will continue the struggle and this case will not influence the party’s decision to run in elections and the election outcome,” reads the statement.
