About 30% of bus and minibus services to northern Moldova suspended

Approximately 30% of the bus and minibus services that connect the capital city and the northern districts have been suspended owing to the snowy roads. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, vice director of the Chisinau-based North Bus Terminal Ion Plamadeala said the buses to Briceni, Glodeni, Falesti, Otaci, Ocnita, and Lipcani will not run. “The snow in some parts is 1 meter high. Some of the roads are impassable. Only 130 of the planned 420 routes will be available. The incomes evidently decreased. We usually collect about 200,000 lei a day from the sale of tickets. Now we gather only 100,000 lei,” said Ion Plamadeala. He also said that many local roads are blocked as the local authorities there do not have money to clean them. There are delays on some international routes to St. Petersburg, Moscow, Odessa, Kiev, and Voronej. Maria Chitoroaga, head of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure’s press office, said the local roads are managed by the district authorities. The Ministry intervenes only when the authorities do not have their own snowplows and other equipment. “We know that a section of 300 meters of the Falesti – Pirlita road is impassable, but the road workers are on the spot and will fix the problem. The roads to Drochia, Edinet, Glodeni are also being cleaned,” she stated. The drivers whose cars got stuck in the snow can use the State Road Administration’s hotline 748-961, which is available 24 hours of 24.
