About 2,000 people joined the cleanup effort organized by Chisinau municipality in courtyards and around apartment blocks last Saturday. Ion Burdiumov, head of the Residential and Amenities Directorate, said among those who joined were volunteers, members of NGOs, students, and union members.
Burdiumov reported at the City Hall meeting that 32 vehicles were used to dispose of 62 loads of waste collected during the cleanup. District head’s offices were issued with about 10,000 bags and 4,000 pairs of gloves to distribute further among volunteers.
The municipal official asked residents to report any remaining bags with waste so that the Directorate could arrange for their disposal on Wednesday.
As concerns the parks cleanup, which has been already postponed twice due to rainy weather, Burdiumov said it’s planned to be held after the Easter holidays.
The courtyards’ and parks’ cleanups are part of the so-called General Spring Cleanup taking place this year from March 4 to April 26.
