About 1.5bn lei planned in health insurance funds for fighting COVID-19

Approximately 1.5 billion lei will be allocated from the mandatory health insurance funds for medical diagnosis and treatment services for patients with COVID-19. Of this sum, 1.14 billion lei was earmarked for treating almost 90,000 cases of COVID-19, while 11.4 million lei for medical assistance services provided by the COVID-19 emergency admissions subdivision. Another 25.5 million lei is intended for performing COVID-19 tests within the ambulatory hospital medical assistance service, IPN reports.

According to the National Health Insurance Company, 412 million lei is to be allocated from the main fund for paying the 100% bonus to the salaries of medical personnel involved in the fight against the novel coronavirus.

Also, 5 million lei will go to cover the costs of COVID-19 vaccines. If necessary, another 10 million lei will be allocated from the reserve fund for the purpose, in accordance with the regulations.

All the citizens, including the medically non-insured ones, who have symptoms typical of COVID-19 benefit from free medical assistance that is covered by the mandatory health insurance funds.
