About 1500 deaf persons will benefit from hearing aids
The first stage of the process on providing the citizens with hearing aid will be carried out in 2007 on the basis of a Government decision. As many as 1448 deaf persons in the country will benefit from prosthetic devices.
The hearing aids “Siemens" and “Belton", which correspond to international standards, have been purchased using the sources of the state budget, as a result of a tender. The total value of the hearing aids is estimated at MDL 2.2 mln. Another MDL 3.2 mln are will be allocated for buying the devices in 2007.
The children will be primarily provided with hearing aid, then students, war veterans, deaf persons and pensioners. The hearing devices are to be adapted individually for each patient, following a complex audio-logical investigation. The necessary medical aid will be carried out by audiologists who have additional qualifications in the field.
According to a study conducted in 2006, over 10 000 persons need hearing aids in Moldova, 2000 of them are children.
