About 1,000 detainees will be amnestied in Transnistria

Some 100 prisoners will be pardoned in Transnistria, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in the region reports, citing a decision of the local Supreme Soviet adopted this week. Detainees from several categories will be released from prison during half a year. These categories are: invalids, pensioners, minors, pregnant women, women with minor children, participants in the Nistru war of 1992, persons that suffer from acute and chronic diseases. For the first time, the amnesty will apply to persons that were sentenced to up to two years in jail and that cooperated actively with the investigation bodies. The given decision was unanimously passed by the Transnistrian legislators on the occasion of the anniversary of the Constitution of the breakaway republic. The last amnesty in the Transnistrian region was granted in 2005, when it was celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. According to different data, 3,000 to 4,000 people are now held in prisons in Transnistria.
