About 100 homeless people taken to shelters last week
About 100 homeless people were taken from Chisinau's streets to shelters. Since the temperatures started dropping, the shelters are getting more and more crowded, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Head of the Municipal Police Silviu Musuc told the City Hall meeting on Monday that at the Center for housing and orientation of homeless people on Haltei St, people were offered medical care and hot tea. If they want, the homeless people can stay overnight, but the center administration doesn’t accept disabled people or those aged over 70.
Silviu Musuca said that the people that are not accepted at the Center on Haltei St are taken to the General Police Commissariat’s Center for the homeless. However, even here, according to the regulation, they can stay only 3 hours. If they file a request, they may stay overnight. About 50 minors were brought to the Commissariat’s Center for the placement of minors. The police are trying to get in touch with their relatives.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca requested the preparation of a cooperation plan between all the City Hall’s division during winter to allow sheltering the homeless for several hours or overnight.
The Center for housing and orientation of the homeless on Haltei St has a capacity of 70 places and the Commissariat’s Center for the homeless has a capacity of more than 50 places.
