Abolishing economic courts is a priority, Alexandru Tanase

Abolishing economic courts and taking over their responsibilities by the common-law courts is one of the priorities of the new government of Moldova in the domains of human rights and justice. Alexandru Tanase, Minister of Justice, told Info-Prim Prim Neo that this reform is necessary because of the inefficiency of the method of concentrating all the litigations in a single court. “The abolishment of economic courts is part of the government program which we shall follow strictly”, Alexandru Tanase said. “This is a drawback imposed to the citizens, who have to come to Chisinau from all the regions of Moldova in order to participate in the litigations. This is why we will pass the competence for solving commercial litigations to the common-law courts”, the ministry added. When asked, what will happen with the judges after the abolition of economic courts, Alexandru Tanase said that no final solution was reached in this sense, but mentioned two possibilities. “They’ll be either offered a job in another court, or will be dismissed from office. However we still have to decide to what extent they can be rehired and how many of them can be rehired”, the Minister of Justice said. Alexandru Tanase stated earlier that the biggest fines that Moldova got from the European Court of Human Rights were the result of the defective activity of economic courts.
