Aaron Cook wins bronze at World Taekwondo Championships

Naturalized Moldovan wrestler Aaron Cook won bronze at the WTF World Taekwondo Championships held in Muju County, South Korea. In the 80 kg class, he scored four victories. In the semifinal battle against Azerbaijan’s Milad Beigi, he withdrew after sustaining an injury, IPN reports.

Cook beat Mohamed Kouma (37-5), Jordan Maikoouva (16-14), Liu Wei-ting (21-18) and Qiao Sen (24-23).  He thus took revenge on Liu Wei-ting from Taiwan, who eliminated him in the first round of the Rio Olympics. Cook, who is from the UK, won bronze for Moldova also at the 2015 World Championships that took place in Chelyabinsk.

The competition in South Korea involved four more Moldovan wrestles. In the 58 kg class, Stepan Dimitrov won against Mohamed Farag (18-10) and Isah Adamu (19-6) and was eliminated in the 1/16 finals by Tawin Hanprab (14-15). Vadim Dimitrov and Sergey Uscov won by a victory, while Ana Ciuchitu was eliminated in the first round by Russia’s Tatiana Kuzmina (4-6).
