Six people died and 9 others were injured after a tourist bathyscaphe with 45 people on board sank in the Red Sea today, IPN reports.

The submarine had set out on a trip in the Red Sea on Thursday and was swallowed by the waters just a kilometer off the coast, not far from the Egyptian city of Hurghada. The boat had reportedly been in use for several years and could sink up to 22 meters deep, NewsNation notes.

Emergency crews intervened with 21 ambulances, managing to evacuate nearly 29 tourists, who suffered minor injuries. All the tourists on board are Russian citizens.
