A state with integral institutions will make right bank of the Nistru more attractive, Maia Sandu

The Moldovan Government’s priority is to strengthen the institutions and to fight corruption. A functional state with integral institutions will make the right bank of the Nistru more attractive and will this way intensify interaction between the residents of the two banks of the river and will facilitate the reintegration process, President Maia Sandu stated in a meeting with Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, IPN reports.

In the discussion, the sides agreed to further look for solutions to ensure the observance of the human rights and freedoms in the Transnistrian region and to solve the daily problems of citizens. “Also, the Government will ensure better interinstitutional cooperation between key agencies and responsible ministries so as to work out coherent and efficient reintegration policies,” stated Maia Sandu.

Also today, Thomas Mayr-Harting had a meeting with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița. In connection with the agreement on the issuing of neural-design license plates for motor vehicles registered in the Transnistrian region, it was underlined the necessity of identifying a solution that would satisfy the interests of citizens, based on a reasonable discussion, without attempts to escalate the situation.

Natalia Gavrilița said the structural reforms and the creation of functional institutions are essential for the Moldovan government, alongside the fight against corruption and illegal schemes, the elimination of smuggling and ensuring of the efficiently of state-owned enterprise.

“Our objective is to improve the quality of life so that all the people want to leave in the Republic of Moldova.  We will create more efficient mechanisms of interministerial cooperation, including for settling the Transnistrian dispute. We want to make sure that the conflicts are resolved in accordance with the national interests,” stated the Premier.

Natalia Gavrilița approved of the position of the partners that remain firmly committed to the peaceful settlement of the conflict by diplomacy and negotiations in the 5 + 2 format given that all the participants support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders.
